Getting your garden ‘spring’ ready

Spring is almost upon us, and as the season of renewal and fresh starts, there’s no better time to get outside into your garden. The milder weather and longer days makes the garden a great place to spend time during spring.

Whilst we’re firm believers that gardening really is a year-round activity, spring is by far the busiest period in the gardening calendar. There are however a number of tasks you can do now to lighten your load for the months ahead, and enjoy your garden wholeheartedly long into spring, summer and early autumn.

Read on to discover the gardening tasks that will help you get your green space spring ready.

Complete a pre-spring clean

Don’t wait for spring to arrive to begin your big garden tidy up. With the weather getting warmer by the day, you don’t have to delay your garden maintenance, which means you can get down to the fun bits like planting, accessorising and entertaining come spring.

Launching your pre-spring clean a little earlier isn’t just a great time saver, it’ll boost the health of your garden no end. Clear fallen leaves and trim overgrown plants to start the growing season in a disease-free, clean and clear setting. Hard landscaped areas such as patios or decks can also be given a good once over.

Start your lawn prep

As the centre of many garden schemes the lawn needs a lot of TLC after those harsher winter months. Start as you mean to go on by clearing debris, dead grass and fallen leaves from its surface, and applying your first dose of lawn feed for 2022.

If your lawn is looking a little sparse, now’s the time to restore uneven areas with a sprinkling of grass seed.

Rethink your garden scheme

Beautiful greenery and brilliant floral displays need a lot of planning. As you’re tidying up your foliage and repotting, think carefully about how you want your spring garden to look. Identify the plants that need extra care to get back to their blooming best as well as preparing areas for new growth.

Your vegetable patch should be carefully planned in preparation for spring. Look into how companion planting can be used with your chosen fruit and veg varieties to ensure a healthier crop this year. You can also start sowing seeds indoors to get a head start for the growing season.
